Dust off your fedora and wear your best lipstick: Agent Carter is back for a second season!
The world waited with baited breath, eagerly awaiting the return of ABC’s Agent Carter starring Hayley Atwell. The spy action drama follows the indomitable Peggy Carter, an intelligent and skilled agent, who is frustrated with being ignored by her superior and fellow agents unless they want a cup of coffee or want something filed.
Fighting to prove her value and she’s just as good as her colleagues in a world that is the male-dominated 1940s, Agent Carter sneaks off on covert and dangerous adventures. More than just a “weapon”, Peggy has a true heart of gold – treating her friendships sacredly with a sincere vulnerability that makes her such a wonderful character to watch.
Agent Carter has had a very interesting history. The character first stole our hearts in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. Proving to be more than Captain America’s “love interest”, she then appeared in 2013’s direct-to-video short film Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.
Overall, the short film was positively received by fans and critics alike. Peggy Carter continued to make flashback cameos in episodes of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and then again as Carter’s elderly self in a touching scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
As Hayley Atwell’s performances were well received by audiences and ABC ordered an 8 episode television series named Marvel’s Agent Carter, airing in January 2015 during the mid-season 2 break of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Despite developing a loyal following and positive reviews from critics, ratings had steadily declined, questioning whether or not Agent Carter would to return to television screens. When Agent Carter’s first season finished airing in February 2015, no word from ABC was received whether the show would return. A tidal wave of fans campaigned across social media channels with the hashtag “” and calls for submissions to ABC were made to bring back their beloved heroine – and they succeeded.
ABC have yet to announce an air date for Agent Carter Season 2, but the character continues a stream of cameos in 2015’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron and the upcoming July 2015 film Ant-Man. Ironically, Captain America’s girlfriend has more screen time than the ‘First Avenger’ himself.
When news first broke of the season 2 renewal, Marvel’s Agent Carter’s Executive Producer Tara Butters tweeted Hayley Atwell who was asleep in Europe.
While we may have a bit of time to wait until we glimpse Agent Carter on screen, at least we can be reminded further why we love Hayley Atwell…
