Everyone has their favourite team, whether it be the All Blacks or the Black Caps. As a fan of The Avengers comic books since childhood, I never dreamed that I would get to see my favourite team on the big screen.
I never believed that someone in Hollywood would be able to capture the excitement of The Avengers that I’d feel with each turn of the page. Reading monthly issues, year by year, these characters become like familiar friends, living on in your memory. You know them intimately; what they’d say, how they’d feel and what they’d do.
I doubted every person in Hollywood, thinking that these movie producers and actors would never know these characters as well as the fans do, that they’d never come close to bringing them to life in cinemas for audiences around the world.
I was wrong.
What Joss Whedon has created and brought to The Avengers is nothing other than magical. I’ve seen comic book movies fail miserably (Daredevil, Elektra, X-Men 3) and let down both comic book fans and audiences everywhere.
He’s done well to adapt these characters and stories without compromising the story’s integrity. I didn’t think he would be able to top 2012’s successful The Avengers film which is pretty much perfect. There is an inherent risk with sequels that they’ll never be as good as the last (*coughAliens3cough*). However, this trailer I’m about to show you makes me think that once again I’ll be proved wrong, as what I see is the true essence of what makes The Avengers, in the face of adversity, the best goddamn team there is.
I hope that watching this gives you shivers, just like it did for me.
