The burger you see was made 1922 days ago in 2009 and it is the last of its kind locally. After the economic crash in Iceland in late 2008 McDonalds decided to close their diners in the country. The day before McDonalds closed its doors Hjörtur Smárason purchased the burger, not to eat but to preserve in his garage. The burger has since been displayed in Iceland’s museum and is now being showcased at Hostel Reykjavik in Iceland. Visitors can see the burger still incredibly preserved, and for those who can’t travel to Iceland there is a live stream available where you can watch the burger decay.
If you’re feeling peckish you can watch the live stream of the decaying burger here.
(the streaming sometimes crashes so be patient and keeping refreshing)
