In a shock announcement to fans and movie watchers worldwide, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios are bringing Spider-Man to Marvel films!
This news comes after months of speculation and hopeful wishes to see the Sony-owned Spider-Man character (who is a member of The Avengers in Marvel’s comic books) cameo in Marvel Studios’ movie franchise.
The new deal sees that Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (e.g. The Avengers, Captain America, Guardians of the Galaxy). Sony Pictures will then release the next instalment of the Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel, along with Amy Pascal (formerly from Sony Pictures Entertainment), who launched the Spider-Man franchise 13 years ago.
Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for Spider-Man and Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films.
Marvel and Sony Pictures are also exploring opportunities to integrate characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films.
Excellent!
I reckon this sort of collaboration is good for both parties as well. Work together everybody so that I can watch sweet movies!
Since the news came out, I have thought more about it and I am getting excited about the idea.
I think under Marvel movie continuity we could get some good stories from a company that cares about their characters and their audience.
It’s not fully Marvel’s property again but at least they have a chance to make an impact with the character.
so so so soooooo stoked!
