J.J. Abrams smacksdown Hasbro for leaving Rey out of Star Wars Monopoly

Rey-monopoly

It’s been a hot topic among Star Wars fans – why is Rey missing from the new The Force Awakens Monopoly set? I mean, you can play as Darth Vader – who doesn’t even appear in the movie – but not Rey, the breakout star?

“It doesn’t quite make sense why she wouldn’t be there,” J.J. Abrams told reporters at the Television Critics Association’s press tour.

“She’s somewhat important in the story.”

“I wish I had more details about merchandising and the schedule,” Abrams said. “I will say that it seems preposterous and wrong that the main character of the movie is not well represented in what is clearly a huge piece of the Star Wars world in terms of merchandising.”

Hasbro said they were trying to keep their game release – months before the movie came out – as spoiler-free as possible. They have since assured fans that Rey would be included in an updated version of the board game.
