It’s difficult to progress a rock-and-roll career when your past co-stars are talking sandpit toys, especially when everybody thinks you died already.
Steve Burns, romantic hero and only true host of Blue’s Clues, talked to Katharine Heller on her Tell The Bartender podcast recently about his dream of becoming an “indie rock godlet,” and his struggle to make it happen.
Steve became friends with The Flaming Lips, , and they invited him to open for them on tour.
Unfortunately, his past haunted him wherever he went. A mosh-pit of soccer moms with puff-paint sweatshirts; parents who’d “bring their children to Stubb’s BBQ in Austin at midnight” to hear him play.
“It was a confluence of bad ideas,” he says, “We were all misunderstanding each other at the same time.”
Plus, he “couldn’t play or sing.”
Oh, Steve.
