An earlier clip, released in June, established that the special is set in the traditional Victorian era. The soundtrack and cinematography give a generous tip of the deerstalker to the 1980s Granada series starring Jeremy Brett.
There’s still no explanation as to why they are back in time. Let’s just put it down to an alternative universe and cross our fingers that no actual time-travel is involved.
