Who doesn’t love the man who bought MacGyver to life?
- At the age of 16, he broke his arm playing hockey. Three weeks later, he broke his other arm while – you guessed it – playing hockey.
- His first national acting gig was in a soap opera in 1976. He played a doctor on General Hospital. See what could have been for you if you’d played your cards right, Chris Warner?
- He won the part of MacGyver because he needed to wear his glasses to read the script while auditioning. The producers felt that he was so unpretentious, he’d suit the character down to a tee.
- RDA plays guitar, and even composed a piece that was used in MacGyver.
- Two MacGyver TV movies were aired: MacGyver: Lost Treasure of Atlantis and MacGyver: Trail to Doomsday. These played in the US in 1994. . Thank me later.
- Sadly, this ad happened.
- Those MacGyver movies were the first made by RDA’s production company Gekko Film Corp – the company that would go on to produce the Stargate SG-1 TV series.
- In 2004 RDA was made an honorary Air Force brigadier general because of his role as star and executive producer of SG-1, and they believed the series portrayed the Air Force in such a positive light.
- He has a daughter named Wylie Quinn Annarose Anderson, who was born in 1998. Ultimately RDA turned his back on more intense roles so he could spend more time with her.
- He spends a lot of time supporting charities including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Special Olympics, and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
Awww, Richard Dean Anderson will always have a bit of a soft spot in our hearts.
