Marvel NAILS their casting once again! Élodie Yung will play fan favourite Elektra Natchios in Marvel’s Daredevil Season 2 on Netflix.

In an official statement from Marvel, it says Yung will play Elektra, a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle.

Elektra marks the most recent major addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as she will join Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle (aka The Punisher) in the upcoming second season of Marvel’s Daredevil.

“After a worldwide search,  we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity,” said Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb.

“Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.”

Elektra was briefly mentioned in Marvel’s Daredevil Season One as a former lover of Matt Murdock that he met in college.

Much like in the comic books, Elektra is the former college love of Matt Murdock whom, after great tragedy, spiralled out of control and became a ninja assassin for hire – earning herself the reputation of being the deadliest woman in the world.

Yung is like a DREAM fan casting for Elektra. From what we’ve seen of Yung in films like G.I. Joe: Retaliation we know she has the acting ability, martial arts skills (10+ years of Karate) and look to pull it off (she looks great in Elektra’s signature colour which is red). It’s also great Marvel made a culturally diverse casting with Yung for the part of Elektra (who in the comic books is Greek), which is a far cry from 2003’s white-washed casting of Jennifer Garner in the Daredevil film starring Ben Affleck.

It will be interesting to see how Yung manages to capture Elektra’s very complex, stoic personality and how she manages to keep Daredevil and the Punisher on their toes.

I feel like I’ve been waiting SO LONG for Elektra’s moment on screen and I think it’s finally about to happen.

Season two will premiere in 2016.
