A young Kiwi wedding photographer has gone viral with a candid behind-the-scenes look at how he encourages his subjects to be natural and relaxed in front of the camera.

A video of Auckland photographer Jonathan Suckling pirouetting in the grass in front of newly-weds Tom Atkinson and Grace Wium has picked up 192,606 views, 846 likes, 302 comments and 2,542 Facebook shares since January 15th.

If that’s not impressive enough, an international entertainment Facebook page, Lo Mas Loco Del Face, , adding another 3.2 million views to Suckling’s belt.

Two-stepping the fine line between crazy and genius, the interpretive dance and martial arts fusion is designed to relax the happy couple and create natural expressions of joy.

“Most people think you need an expensive camera to make good photos. But the truth is… you just need good dance moves,” Suckling grins.

The Suckling Spin, Suckling Shimmy and the range of different rolls are all part of the unique Suckling style. “I don’t make my couples endure hours of photo posing,” the grass roller says. “A photo shoot with me is a sensory delight for all my couples. It’s more like a live theatre performance than a photo shoot.”

“Capturing moments isn’t good enough,” Suckling says. “For me it’s about creating moments.”

As for the newly-weds themselves? The happy groom says, “Anything can happen during a wedding shoot. We needed a photographer that could adapt to any situation. As you can see, Jonathan has the stealth and agility of James Bond, whilst maintaining the finesse and elegance of a ballerina.”
