Michael Jackson.
A name synonymous with pop-perfection.
It’s hard to fathom the idea of creating a show based on the ‘King Of Pop’s’ work. With 40 years worth of music to pick from, could anyone ever select the perfect compilation of hits to deliver to an audience craving an experience fitting of his title?
Yes. Yes it appears that someone can.
Conceived by Jackson family friend and author, Adrian Grant, the show started its life in 2007 and eventually opened on the West End in 2009.
From there it’s grown into an international phenomenon for those wanting to celebrate the genius of Michael Jackson’s career.
Covering off Jackson’s life from his time with The Jackson 5, who eventually became The Jacksons, to his time as the most successful solo male pop-artist in the world, the show effortlessly moonwalks through a collection of songs that will get the audience moving.
While it’s all good and well to have an amazing array of MJ’s hits, you need someone to be able to cover off the singing.
And in this case it’s 6 fantastic leads.
Headlined by Australian singer MiG Ayesa, a cast member who performed in the original production in 2006, and filled out by Prinnie Stevens, Alex Buchanan, J Rome, Wayne Robinson and Sean Christopher, the vocal leads allow us to travel from the highest highs of The Jackson 5’s ‘ABC’ and ‘I’ll Be There’, through to the sensual tones of The Jackson’s ‘Show You The Way To Go’ and ‘Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)’, where it then climaxes with Jackson’s solo career and hits such as ‘Smooth Criminal’, ‘Billie Jean’ and of course ‘Thriller’.
With an in-house band making sure the sound truly pays homage to Jackson, the set comes alive with ever-changing scenery displayed on beautiful LED displays, props that fully bring it to life and some fireworks for that extra-punch, ‘Thriller Live’ truly celebrates the artist who gave us so much great music.
When the lights come up, it will be hard to hide the smile you’ll have knowing that you’ve seen a performance that captures the creativity, energy and joy that is the music of Michael Jackson.
