Mortdecai accurately depicts societal view on facial hair

Johnny Depp starred in what surprisingly only got two-and-a-half stars for what could have been a good contender for four.

You may have seen the ads going around on the backs of buses with the cast of Mortdecai sporting facial hair.

This made me feel a little bit anxious. I thought maybe it was a certain uniqueness to what could have been a stock-standard story.

Thankfully, it wasn’t.

SPOILER ALERT: Only Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp) sports a moustache. His wife, however, rejects it quite bluntly.

She asks him to remove it, he declines, and she not only refuses to share the evening meal with him but asks the house worker to make up the guest bed for him to sleep in, refusing him any marital pleasures.

This seems to have be the way facial hair is being treated in real life.

I know, for myself, that I need to shave my moustache if I want to simply peck my partner, as lovely as she is.

I’ve also noted that when using the app Tinder just for giggles, there has been a significant trend of ladies commenting that they don’t want men with moustaches.

Don’t get me wrong, there have also been ladies who’ve liked facial hair. But it’s a minority these days.

The tones that movie Mortdecai addressed were simply inspiring.

Additionally, Johnny Depp. Nothing more should need to be said. *drools*

Just in case you need some more convincing to recognise what is a magnificent movie, let me give you a little tease about what to expect.

The kind of true friend we all wish we had in the form of Mortdecai’s home servant.

The kind of comedy that can only come from a man who needs his wife’s permission to do anything and everything, including standing up to her.

The kind of plot that you think you know, but you really don’t, however at the same time you do.

Intrigued? So was I!

Mortdecai, now open in cinemas.
