Liam Lorigan, Managing Director of Lorigan Solutions, has taken a unconventional step into the dating world by going online.
I’m not talking Tinder, or Badoo. Liam has his own website: www.DateLiam.co.nz
After having had a talk with Liam, I’ve found these 8 simple steps to get a girlfriend with his own words and experiences.
Step 1: Start your own business
“So I am trialing out different products. [Roku] was my first product. It’s been an interesting exercise.
I’ve been using it for about six months. I’ve had my own way of using it but it’s been interesting hearing about it from other people.
It’s been fascinating though to hear people use it and I’m hoping that with Netflix coming in March, that helps.”
Step 2: Have a 10-year past in I.T.
“I helped stores. I helped them with technology.
There were a lot of different areas so that could be partly sales, partly training and educating. I do presentations on Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and help them decide on things like whether to go to Google.
I’ve been with Renaissance for six years, this last company for 7 months. Before that I was with Ebesign which is kind of in the IT world anyway.”
Step 3: Don’t be a failed “The Bachelor” applicant
“I’ve never applied so I can’t be a failure.
First of all, I don’t watch TV so that would be quite … I’ve heard of The Bachelor, don’t get me wrong.
I haven’t lived under a rock or anything but I also don’t like certain things about online dating and dating shows.
I guess the only way I could do it myself is if I set it up myself [and say] this is how it’s gonna be done, instead of applying for something that I may not agree with.”
Step 4: Be keen on Facebook, and learn other social media
“I’ve probably been on Facebook for a long time.
I’ve had [Twitter] for 2 years I think but I actually didn’t know how to use it for a long time.
I’m still learning but Facebook’s really the only one I can get because I’ve used it.”
Step 5: Keep at it!
“Some friends, some family, I can’t say who, had sent me messages that were less than positive, saying how embarrassing it was, saying that it was a cringe factor, that I shouldn’t be doing it and that it was going to impact other people not just me.
There was that and there were private messages on Twitter as well saying you know you’re this and you’re that.
I’m trying to live my life and I’m just trying to be myself. All of these serious things I’m tryna do.”
Step 6: Don’t use Tinder
“The honest part is I think I’ve installed [Tinder].
I read things, right, and try them out but I must have tried it and put it away very quickly because I haven’t really, I haven’t dated anyone and I don’t remember really using it.
I install a lot of things, quickly, try them out and then uninstall them.”
Step 7: Deal with criticism
“Everyone wants me to fail, to the biggest businesses to the smallest businesses and in dating, ‘oh my god why am I not on Tinder? Why am I not using the normal methods?’
[Sex: Yes Please and Bum: Brown] was my humour, that was a joke from a movie quote from a movie.
Some people will get it, and if they know me and they’ve met me hopefully they’ll just go ‘ok, that’s just him.'”
Step 8: Put your family at the heart of the project
“Both my parents are really good friends. So they’re not just my mum and dad, they are my friends.
My mum, especially, is a remarkable person whose gone to Sri Lanka, been a social worker [and is] the kindest giving person that I aspire to be.
She has all the right values that I hope to be taking on board.
She’s in Australia and meets people.
She goes ‘Oh Liam, you’ve got to meet this girl I met in the supermarket.’
She’s already doing this, right.
By putting that online I know who she sees.
If it all turns to custard at least it would have been worthwhile for me going ‘well this is me.'”
