The Whiskey Sour (sometimes called the Boston Sour) has been around since at least the 1870s, and is a simple cocktail of whiskey, lemon juice, sugar (or syrup), and a partial egg white. The Whiskey Sour is shaken, and served either straight, or with ice into an old-fashioned glass. It is traditionally garnished with a slice of orange and a maraschino cherry.
Recipe
45 ml whiskey
22 ml lemon juice
15 ml simple syrup
1 egg white
1 handful ice
1 maraschino cherry
1 orange slice
Put all but ice into a shaker, shake for 10 seconds.
Add ice in, shake for another 10 seconds
Strain into glass (with ice or without)
Garnish with cherry and orange.
Enjoy.
Repeat.

Don’t like whiskey?
Blackberry Sour: Substitute whiskey for blackberry brandy.
Cherry Sour: Try cherry brandy.
Island Sour: Omit whiskey, add gold rum.
Mexican Sour: Forget the whiskey, add tequila, forget everything.
Peach Sour: Omit whiskey, add peach schnapps.
Southern Sour: Make with bourbon rather than whiskey.
One of my faaaavourite drinks.
I need this in my life right now! It may only be 10:30am, but it’s Friday.
