She’s Gonna Be Huge

Introducing rising star ‘Tei Shi’

Valerie Teicher AKA ‘Tei Shi’ is a part of a new wave of artists bringing in their own unique style, playing by their own rules, and expanding the boundaries of music like BANKS, FKA Twigs, Lorde and Frank Ocean, to name a few.

While there are many commercial artists that I love, I have to say that coming from a radio background and hearing a variety of artists it’s exciting when you glimpse the greater potential of an independent musician; seeing them dangle on the precipice of the unknown before falling into a sea of success.

Wow. That was deep and rather poetic, but the sentiment is still the same: I know a breakthrough artist when I hear them.

Tei Shi has amassed quite a large following since the Summer of 2013: hundreds of thousands of plays across the internet and press coverage spanning Rollingstone, Buzzfeed, Vogue, Entertainment Weekly, VICE – all heavy-weights with credibility that tell you she’s who you should be listening to.

Her latest single ‘Bassically’ is an airy synth-pop tune laced with ethereal sensual vocals that thickens and builds through the track, twisting around your ears like the hypnotic call of mythical Siren, drawing you in with her voice. Her style is unique – not touching one particular genre but a few, blending elements of indie pop and R&B with a soft lean toward electronica; an all-encompassing form which she has called “mermaid music”.

So who is this siren and where did she come from?

24-year-old Valerie Teicher was born in Argentina and from then on became well-travelled, having lived in Colombia, Vancouver, Boston and is now settled in New York. She has since toured near and far to crowded venues including prestigious SXSW and is featured as lead vocals for Glass Animals track ‘Holiest’ which went to #1 on Hype Machine.

I predict big things will continue for Tei Shi and you can listen to her debut EP ‘Saudade’ on iTunes, Spotify and SoundCloud.

Happy listening!
